WHAT TO WATCH IN LOCKDOWN

In this era of Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime not forgetting terrestrial TV, we have never been so spoilt for choice with movies, documentaries and series to watch. So you don't miss the best we've done the research for you and here we share our top five 'can’t-miss' list for cozy Autumnal evenings by the fire. Number one being our top watch of 2020.

At number five and showing on Netflix, Emily in Paris. Lily Collins stars as an ambitious 20-something marketing executive from Chicago who lands her dream job in Paris when her company acquires a French luxury marketing company. Emily's new life in Paris is filled with intoxicating adventures and unusual challenges as she juggles making friends, winning over her work colleagues, and navigating new romances. This is a must for those of us who enjoyed Carrie Bradshaw's chic and stylish wardrobe all those moons ago in Sex and the City as the styling is done by SATC's Patricia Field.

At number four is Netflix drama Ozark. Starring Jason Bateman as a financial advisor who becomes embroiled in the Mexican drug trade. Bateman's Marty Bird drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease the cartel boss. Ozark will literally have you on the edge of your seat from the get-go and you will have too many late nights as one episode draws you into the next! Best for those who don't mind the obligatory associated violence. Ozark is now showing on Netflix.

At three, Jeff Orlowski's The Social Dilemma. This documentary-drama carefully explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with tech experts alerting us to the dangers of their own creations. An in-depth look at how social media platforms and algorithms manipulate individuals and their contribution to issues such as viral conspiracy theories, rampant misinformation, teenage mental health issues and political polarization. Disturbing and eye-opening, The Social Dilemma exposes the dark truth of social media.

At number two we have The Glorias. Journalist and feminist Gloria Steinem is a modern-day icon known for her world-shaping activism, her guidance of the revolutionary women’s movement, and her writing that has influenced and tought generations. In this biopic, set against the backdrop of a lonely bus on an open highway, the Glorias traces Steinem’s  journey to prominence—from when she was a young woman in India to her role in the rise of the women’s rights movement in the 1960s and beyond. The legendary feminist leader is portrayed by four different actresses at four different stages of her life. Starring Julianne Moore, Alice Vikander and Janelle Monae. Currently showing on Netflix.

At number one - our top 'must-see' of the Autumn is Stateless. Based on a true story this powerful and thrilling series follows four strangers whose lives collide at an immigration detention centre in the Australian desert. An airline hostess on the run from a dangerous cult meets a brave Afghan refugee and his daughter fleeing persecution; a young father escaping a dead-end job and a bureaucrat running out of time to prevent a national scandal. Stateless offers a snapshot into the troubled history of Australia’s mandatory-detention system for immigrants without visas. I was mesmarised from the first episode. Surprising, shocking and by virtue of an outstanding performance by Fayssal Bazzi, tear-inducing. Set aside a few evenings. With Cate Blanchett and Dominic West; produced by Cate Blanchett and starring Yvonne Strahovski and Jai Courtney. Stateless is available to watch now on Netflix.
